Sand Lake is a small town in Michigan, with a population of just over 1,000 people. The town was founded in 1854 and was originally named "Sherman." It was renamed "Sand Lake" in 1887 after a local sandbar. Today, Sand Lake is known for its festivals, attractions and natural resources. The town is home to the Sand Lake State Park and the Sand Lake Recreation Area. There are several trails that wind through the park, including the 4-mile long Pine River Trail. The recreation area has picnic areas, a playground and sports fields.
