It has a population of about 2,000 people, and offers visitors a wide variety of activities and attractions. The village is home to the Mamakating General Store, which was established in 1812, as well as the historic Mamakating Cemetery. The Mamakating Historical Association Museum houses displays on local history and the area's early settlers. The village is also known for its annual Apple Festival in October.
