White Marsh is a small town in Maryland, United States. It is located 10 miles south of Baltimore and east of Washington, D.C. The town was founded in 1772 as the location of a mill on the Patapsco River by Daniel Carroll and his son-in-law, Peter Fisher. White Marsh became famous as the home of an asylum for the mentally ill, which was founded in 1841 by Dorothea Dix. The asylum closed in 2002 and was converted into apartments and commercial space. Today, White Marsh is a residential area with a small commercial center.
