Wetherby is a town in West Yorkshire, England. It lies on the River Wharfe, 9 miles west of Leeds and 18 miles east of York. The population was 16,662 at the 2011 Census. The name "Wetherby" is derived from Old Norse "Vetr byr", meaning "the farm by the waterfall". Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Wetherby formed an important market town for wool and cloth production in the 19th century.
