It is situated on the left bank of the Volga River about 190 kilometers south-east of Kazan and about 50 kilometers north-west of the Republic's capital, Ufa. The town has a population of around 5,000 people. Lipki is best known for its wooden churches, which were built in the 18th century by exiled Tatars from Crimea.
