Agualva-A-Nova is a charming town located in the valley of the river Gave, about 25 kilometers southeast of Lisbon. Its main attraction is its castle, built in the 14th century on a mountaintop overlooking the town and the valley. The castle was abandoned by its last lord in 1668, but it was restored and reopened to tourists in 2006. There are also several churches and monasteries worth seeing in Agualva-A-Nova, as well as a number of Renaissance palaces.
