Harrisonburg, Virginia is a charming town of about 36,000 people located in the Shenandoah Valley on the banks of the James River. The area was first settled in 1736 and became part of Frederick County in 1788. The town was renamed for General William Henry Harrison, who died in 1841 while fighting a war with the Shawnee Indians. Today, Harrisonburg is known for its well-preserved architecture and lovely parks. It is also home to two universities - Liberty University and James Madison University - as well as several museums and galleries.
