Napoleon is located in north central Illinois. The town had its start in 1837 when Dr. John A. Napoleon and his wife, Elizabeth, established a post office and small store. In 1840 the community was renamed Napoleon in honor of the then-president of the United States, William Henry Harrison. The population was 1,668 at the 2010 census. The town is home to Napoleon State Park which offers camping facilities and a number of trails for hikers and bicyclists.
