Gallup is a small town in New Mexico with an interesting history. The town was founded in 1879 by the Mormon pioneer, George A. Smith. It was initially called Fort Sumner, but was renamed after the famous Gallup polling station in New Hampshire. The town's main attraction is the historic district which includes many of the original buildings from when Gallup was founded. Other attractions include the Museum of Northern New Mexico and the Navajo Nation Cultural Center.
