The town was founded in 1877 and named for Pierre Dardenne, who with his brothers established one of the first wheat farms in the area. Dardenne Prairie today has a population of about 700 people and is a popular tourist destination due to its scenic beauty and proximity to several major attractions, including Branson, Springfield, and St. Louis.
