Sutton is a town in Wyoming County, New York, United States. The population was 1,532 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Wyoming County. Sutton is located on the south bank of the Genesee River and was first settled around 1792. The town was named after Wethersfield, Connecticut, where some of its early settlers had originated. The town's early economy was based on agriculture and lumber. In later years it became an industrial center due to its location on the Great Lakes shipping route.
