Savage is a small town in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River, opposite the city of Hastings and northeast of Saint Paul. The population was 1,528 at the 2010 census. The name "Savage" likely comes from an Ojibwe word meaning "a place where wild grapes grow". Savage was founded in 1857 as a trading post by John Savage and his brother-in-law, Joseph Cates. It served as a stop on the Underground Railroad during the mid-19th century.
