Marrero is a historic town located in Jefferson County, United States. The population was 2,924 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. Marrero's history can be traced back to 1795 when it was founded as a plantation by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, Sieur de Bienville. In 1830, Marrero became an incorporated municipality. The community's most famous son is Louisiana Governor Huey Long who was assassinated there in 1935. A memorial to Long stands in the town square.
