Plainfield is a small town in central Indiana, United States. It is the county seat of Hendricks County and has a population of 17,956 as of the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1833 and was named for General John C. Calhoun, then United States Secretary of War. In 2002 Plainfield was designated a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The city celebrates its heritage with an annual Arts and Crafts Festival, which features more than 150 artists from around the region.
