Capitola is a coastal town in Santa Cruz County, California, United States. The population was 2,976 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north coast of Capitola Bay about 8 miles (13 km) south of Santa Cruz and about 25 miles (40 km) north of San Francisco. The town has a small commercial district and a few restaurants along Beach Street near the oceanfront. The town's central activity is tourism with visitors coming for its long sandy beach, hiking trails in nearby Soquel State Park, and surfing at nearby Aptos Beach.
