Lowell is a historic town located in Faulkner County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,893 at the 2010 census. It is home to the University of Central Arkansas and Russellville Regional Airport. Lowell was founded in 1873 by Colonel James H. Lowry and named for his friend, Senator John Lowell of Massachusetts. The town experienced a rapid growth after the arrival of the railroad in 1886; however, this growth was halted by the Great Depression.
