Harrow is a town in north-west London, situated about 8 miles northwest of Charing Cross. The name Harrow is derived from the Old English Harwia meaning 'place of hawks'. The town grew up around two churches and an abbey, all of which are still standing today. From the 13th century onwards, Harrow became a popular place for wealthy landowners to send their children to be educated. This tradition continues today with the University of Westminster and Queen Mary's College both having campuses in Harrow.
