It has been a centre of trade and industry since the Middle Ages, and contains many historical sites, including the Town House and Jail built by Robert the Bruce in 1327, as well as numerous Georgian and Victorian buildings. The Queensferry Crossing, opened in 1994, is a pedestrian bridge across the Firth of Forth linking Leith with South Queensferry.
