Kearsley is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. The town's name derives from the Old English phrase "Cearcelesge" meaning "the meadow by the castle". Historically part of Lancashire, it was founded in the early 18th century and became a cotton mill town. In 1984 Kearsley became a metropolitan borough with its own council. The town has undergone extensive regeneration since then, and now includes a range of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as a cinema.
