Finchley is a borough of North London and is situated 9 miles east of Charing Cross. The area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and later developed into a small rural village which was incorporated into the Municipal Borough of Hendon in 1889. The rapid growth of London in the Victorian era led to Finchley becoming one of the new suburbs and it became part of the London Borough of Barnet in 1900. In 1904, Finchley had its own railway station on the Great Northern line which helped to stimulate further development.
