Barking is a town located in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, England. It is situated 9.7 miles (15.9 km) east of Charing Cross, on the River Roding. The town has a population of around 105,000 people and includes Barking Abbey, which was founded by the Saxon-born St Edith in 673 AD and became an important Christian site before being destroyed by fire in 1096 AD.
