It's birthplace is credited with being the birthplace of the Russian coal mining industry and some of the first industrialists in the country such as Alexander Ivanovich Kuzmin, Pavel Dyachenko, and Pavel Krutsik. The town was also home to some of the most famous Soviet labor leaders such as Dimitry Karatin and Vladimir Lenin himself.
