Dovzhansk is a small city in the Donetsk Oblast of eastern Ukraine. It's located about 45 kilometers northeast of Donetsk and about the same distance southwest of Mariupol. Dovzhansk has a population of about 39,000 people and sits on the banks of the Dnieper River. The city was founded in 1776 by Catherine II as part of her efforts to Russify Ukrainian lands.
