Situated on a hill overlooking the ancient city of Palmyra, Tadmur has been home to a number of important historical sites, including an ancient palace and a Roman amphitheater. The site also contains some impressive ruins from the Assyrian period and features a number of cisterns that are still used today by local farmers.
