The town of Moengo is located in the northeast of Suriname and stands at an elevation of approximately 900 meters. The old Dutch colonial district of Moengo is home to a number of well-preserved 18th century buildings, including the parish church and a number of smaller houses. The town centre is also home to a number of art galleries, including the Coene Kunstenaarsschool. In 2009, Moengo was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
