Skopin is a small town in the Vladimir oblast, Russia. It is located about 10 kilometers southwest of Vladimir and has a population of about 8,000. The town was first mentioned in chronicles in the 11th century. Skopin was part of the Principality of Moscow from 1359 to 1437, when it passed to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 1558, it became part of the Tsardom of Russia. Skopin played an important role in Russian military history; it was the site of several battles during World War II.
