Kirishi is a charming small town located in the republic of Tatarstan, Russia. The town was first mentioned in written history in the 12th century and was originally known as "Kirishima." Today, Kirishi retains much of its medieval charm with cobblestone streets, traditional wooden houses and churches. The town's main attraction is its large onion market which takes place every Saturday morning. There are also many interesting historical sites to visit including the Bishop's Palace, where Ivan the Terrible spent his exile, and the ruins of an ancient fortress.
