Tuapse is a small town in the Republic of Adygea, Russia. The town is located on the north coast of the Black Sea, about 100 kilometers east of Sochi and 150 kilometers west of Krasnodar. Tuapse was founded in 1742 by Empress Elizabeth I as a military settlement to protect the area from Crimean Tartars. The town grew rapidly after it became an important naval base during the Russian Civil War. Today, Tuapse is a popular tourist destination with a variety of activities available such as fishing, sailing, bird watching, and visiting historical landmarks.
