The town has a long history dating back to the 12th century and is home to several interesting attractions including the Chebarkul Kremlin, a 16th century fort, and the Museum of Folk Architecture. The main attraction in town however is the Chebarkul Lake which was formed some 10,000 years ago as a result of glaciation.
