Kotlas is a small town located in the Republic of Karelia, Russia. The town was founded by Finnish settlers in the early 19th century. Kotlas has a population of about 10,000 people and it is home to several attractions, including the Kotlas Fortress and the Kotlas Kremlin. The Kotlas Fortress was built in 1716 by the Russian military officer Pyotr Potemkin as part of his efforts to strengthen Russian control over the area.
