Sokhumi is a city in the North Caucasus region of Russia. It is located on the left bank of the Kur River, opposite the Georgian city of Tbilisi. The city has a population of about 100,000 people and it is one of the oldest cities in Georgia. Sokhumi was known as a Silk Road trading center and has many historic monuments and buildings from that era. Today, Sokhumi is a cultural center with art galleries, theaters, and music venues. It is also home to a large university and several museums.
