Kostenets is a historical town in the northwestern Bulgaria, located at the confluence of the Struma and Borovets rivers. It was founded by a group of Thracian settlers in the 4th century BC as an important trade and commercial center on the Via Egnatia. The town was ruined by an earthquake in 1115, but was rebuilt and became one of the most important cultural centers of Bulgarian Thrace. Kostenets is well known for its Revival architecture, which features elements of both Byzantine and Ottoman styles.
