Mymensingh is a city in Bangladesh and the capital of Mymensingh District. It has a population of nearly 1.5 million people and is the sixth largest city in Bangladesh. It is located on the Ganges River, about 225 kilometers south-southwest of Dhaka. The city was founded in 1793 by Mir Jafar after he defeated the rulers of Chittagong and Sylhet. Mymensingh's many attractions include several centuries-old mosques, palaces, tombs, gardens and other buildings constructed with colorful marbles from India.
