Ki is a beautiful city located in the southern Azerbaijan province. The city was founded in the 9th century by Kiyan, the son of construction supervisor for Abbasid Caliph al-Ma'mun. Ki is known for its well preserved medieval architecture and picturesque streets. Some of the most popular sights to see in Ki include the Kiyan Palace, which was once used as a royal palace; the Sheykh Ziyad Mosque, which is one of Azerbaijan's oldest mosques and features a beautiful courtyard; and the Roman ruins at Ashtarak.
